Anybody else ever get addicted to Discovery Channel? When I was in high school I was got so addicted that I called in sick to my pizza job and sat there all night watching a special about giant squids. Of course this was before DVR and I hated taping things off the tv. When my mom got home and realized what was going on she dragged me away from the tv and we went out. I realize this isn't a huge big deal but honestly, that channel is SO good.
I have since then been really careful about how much DC I watch. Yesterday I was in Durham at Brad's (my other best friend) house nursing a hangover and cramps and sat on his couch watching four hours of Discovery Channel. It is the beginnning of Shark Week, which makes for great tv. I love sharks, but I fear them tremendously, which is why I force myself to look at pictures of them and watch videos of them. Although I do wish Shark week didn't coincide with the beach trip I am leaving on this Thursday.
Anywho it got to be 5:00 and I still had to drive the 2.5 hours to get back to Hickory and my cats so I dragged myself away. But darnit, I want to watch more Shark Week!!

We are here, we are waiting..
I would love nothing more than to sleep for like four days right now. That would be the best thing to happen to me. Last night Jared and I went to see Transformers. It was a pretty good movie, but there was definitely some stupid parts to it. I mean, Optimus Prime was kind of a wus, and they made his voice just sound ridiculous. It's okay though because Shia Labeouf's hotness makes up for it. I definitely have a crush on that little guy. His personality in the movie is almost Jaredish.
Tonight the plan is to go buy Brad a birthday present and to do as little after that as possible, except maybe a nap. Why I can't I get sleep? Well, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night I was buying/reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Monday night I had to fill in on Jared's bowling team, which starts at midnight and takes 2 hours. I was also finishing Harry Potter (which is decidedly friggin awesome by the way). Then yesterday I had to GPS which drains me of energy.
ergh. I need a vacation. Good thing I'm going to the beach next week. yay beach!
I would just like to make one more comment on Harry Potter: JK Rowling is a genius and deserves a nobel prize for literature. So SO SO awesome. I cried on four seperate occasions while reading the book. That means it's good. There were even moments when I laughed out loud (like when Mrs. Weasley calls Bellatrix LeStrange a Bitch). That was great. Don't worry, I won't say anymore since I know some of my friends are still reading (Jared's just started book 2).

Levicorpus!
Tonights the night!!! I'm so excited!!! Too bad I don't really have a lot of time to read this weekend. Too bad I'm SO tired today that I'm not sure if I'll have the energy to go by Barnes and Noble to get my book tonight.
I have had several oppurtunities to read spoilers, and pictures of the book, in the past couple of days. But I have restrained myself. I feel it's worth it. :)

always a bridesmaid.. or.. something like that...
What is the deal with all my friends either getting married or engaged? Carmen got married a month ago. My old roommate Andrea got engaged this past weekend to Dave, who she's been dating for 5 years. This morning I got to work in Lenoir, and my friend Adrienne is engaged! I think I'm the only person left of all of my (girl)friends who is not married or engaged. Really.
But you know what? I don't care. I really don't think I could handle marriage right now. And even if I could, I'm just as happy with Jared living with me. Marriage is a lot of pressure, and it's an excuse. An excuse for what? To have babies. And I'm certainly not ready for that. And I know, as soon as I get married, I'm going to want to have a baby.
Good thing I have Jared to keep me in check. We have talked about it and will wait a while. Which is damn good. Because even if I for some crazy reason did think I was ready, he's not. That is a good balance system. There's no way it would work with one person who is ready and one who is not.
Oh. And I swear to God if anyone read the leaked version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and decides to ruin the ending for me, I will hunt you down and kill you. Or at least be very very very angry with you.

Spiritualized.
Ever since I can remember I have associated my grandparents with church. Anytime we went to visit them, we knew we would be going to church. If I think hard enough, I can probably count easily the number of times I've been to church without my grandparents. The most vivid memory of going to church with my grandparents is my grandmother's singing. Every time a hymn was sang, she sang along. My cousins and I would often talk about Grandma's singing. See the thing is, it wasn't pretty. It was loud and very high pitched, almost shrill. My cousin Alicia did a pretty spot on impression of Grandma.
At the funeral on Thursday morning in a tiny little funeral home in Valdosta, Georgia, the choral group from Grandma's church was there singing. They began by singing some pretty song about memories and stuff. My 8 month old second cousin was happily bouncing along and giggling. Then as they reached the 3rd chorus, I closed my eyes and thought about Grandma's singing. I suppose it could have been the power of suggestion, but as I sat there listening, I could have sworn I heard her, over all the rest, singing loudly, and very high pitched. I laughed in spite of myself and, as I turned my tear-streaked face to my cousin, she said very softly "I can hear Grandma singing."
We smiled at each other and I glanced at my Dad who was sitting on the row in front of me with his three sisters. I distinctly heard him whisper something to my Aunt Darinda about "Momma's singing". Apparently we all heard it, because later on in the day, my brother Alan, who was sitting in the back with his daughter Elora, told me he could have sworn he heard Grandma singing at the funeral.
If any person on this Earth was destined for Heaven, it is my Grandma, Earline Suggs

So..
My grandmother passed away last night at the age of 77, having suffered a stroke and a brain tumor. She was the matriarch of my family and I'll miss her. She could tell you the name of every single tree, flower or bird from here to California (trust me, I know).
I'll be in Georgia with no internet for the next few days.

Happy 5th of July!
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! It's always been my favorite holiday, and yesterday was no exception. It's a great holiday because it's a great excuse for everyone to just relax, have fun, bbq some meat, and light things on fire.
Jared's brother Josh lives on the lake (lake Hickory) in Taylorsville so he has an annual 4th of July bash. I was invited this year so yesterday Jared and I went and we had a ball. His sister, brother, 20ish of his brother's friends, and Jared's friends Jeff and Misty were all there.
We watched the most exciting Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest ever! I still can't believe Kobayashi was finally taken out! I'm just glad an American finally won it.
Then we lounged around, talking, munching, watching some tube when we needed to cool off, laid in the hammock, shot off a big ole potato gun (and almost hit some lake passer byers) played on the giant black slip-n-slide:
which ended with a kiddie pool.
This was a lot of fun for the guys, and would have been a lot of fun for me, had i not been wearing jeans. But by the time I went inside and changed into my swim bottoms, they were done playing on it. Jared had fun though:
There was also a homemade zip-line that ended in the lake, but we both opted out of that one.
Believe it or not, I actually got in the lake for a little bit. Jared's sister Amy has pictures! I wasn't going to at first, due to my aversion to swimming in water where I can't see my feet, especially lake water, but I was talked into it. I didn't want to be the odd woman out. It was highly gross, but also a little bit fun. I'm just glad my honey was there to hang onto so my feet touched the slimy bottom as little as possible.
Eventually they grilled and we had yummy pork chops, hamburgers and hot dogs. After watching the hot dog eating contest and seeing Kobayashi toss his um.. hot dog back up, I opted out of eating a hot dog.
Finally around 9:00 it was dark enough for people to start playing with fireworks. The only ones we had were a few bottle rockets that I pulled out of my car. Other than that we just watched the 20 or so other parties around and on the lake shooting off their fireworks. It was so nice.
Of course today I'm tired and sunburnt, but we had a great time.

Hearts
Woohoo! After trying about 80 million times since I taught myself how to play last week, I finally won a game of Hearts!
(I use a fake name since I'm at work. Today, it was Joan)
skankness
Well I had a pretty boring weekend unless you count going to a skanktacular strip club with Jared and a few others on Friday night, and then going to dinner with the ex on Sunday night. Saturday I did not leave the house except to take Beefcake to get his rabies shot. He is 4 pounds now but the vet thinks he is too skinny. I am doubling his food now, and I keep Meatwad out while he is eating.
I have been feeding Cheddar, Carmen's cat, this week while she is on her honeymoon in the Caribbean. I am also feeding her plants, and trying desperately not to kill them. Why am I so terrible with plants? The tomato plant is browning even though I am watering it everyday. And their pet plant, the carnivorous one, is looking sad too. They'll be home tomorrow and I'm hoping it holds on long enough for Jon to save it.
Last night I got jealous over something stupid. Why do I continue to get jealous when I know Jared is totally committed to me? I trust him, but I don't trust other girls. I'm just weird I guess. But everything is fine. It's weird how I don't get jealous at the strip club but I get jealous with girls I know. hmm.
