Throwing up at the Gynocologist.

Don't worry, I'm not really going to talk about the gynecological part of my doctor's visit.

See, a year ago, my gynecologist decided that since I had never had a cholesterol screening, that my next visit (that would be this year) I should have one. She told me to fast after midnight the night before.

Fast forward to Monday. I made the mistake of scheduling that appointment at 4 pm (I like late afternoon appointments). So, I had to go all day with no food or drink. See, since I had never had a screening before, I didn't realize that I was allowed to drink water if I wanted. So no food, no water. This gave me a wicked headache, but I ignored it since taking a Tylenol might have affected the screening. I think.

Anywho so when it came time for them to draw blood from my arm on Monday afternoon, I was a little weak. I told the nurse about the last time I gave blood. And about the first time I gave blood. She asked if I wanted to lay down for the process. I said "no" taking a chance that perhaps it would be like the second time I gave blood, which is the only time I didn't almost pass out.

Bad idea. After about 3 minutes it hit me, as it tends to do. I got all hot and sweaty. The nurse put a bag of frozen peas on the back of my neck, and wiped my face with a wet paper towel. And then, I got really nauseated. And I threw up. In the trash can. This is a new one for me in the giving blood arena. She felt really bad for me and went next door to a vending machine and got me a Coke.

After a while I was fine of course, except the headache didn't go away. The point of the story is, I really shouldn't give blood unless it's absolutely necessary. And I can drink water when I'm fasting.

What Have I Done?

I've decided to do something totally outrageous, just because I can. I'm going to take the idea from Southern Suburbia, and join NaBloPoMo. November is National Blog Posting Month. I'm going to blog every day in the month of November. Hopefully.

I wasn't going to do this because I'm just not creative enough to come up with something to blog about for 30 days in a row. But one idea they give you is to come up with a theme.

Last night as I was taking a shower, I thought of a blog idea. I thought, "I could write about all the random things I collect, and show pictures of them". Then, I realized I collect a LOT of things. This would be, like, the biggest post ever. Then, I thought, "I could break it up some". It suddenly occurred to me that this might be a great idea to use for NaBloPoMo. Do I really collect 30 different things? I don't think so, but I'm willing to try and see.. Wish me luck!! And read my blog every single day in November. Or suffer. It may be different times of day. And this is all assuming, of course, that I'm going to have Internet access every day.

So, anyways, here goes nothing. Yippie Kay Yai!

You can look at my NaBloPoMo profile by clicking the badge thinggy to the right (below my archive). All the posts will be here though. Hey, you should join too. And be my friend.

The Youth of Allison.

This picture pretty much details what I was like from age 11 to age 16. Complete wannabe hippy. I was convinced that I was born in the wrong decade. You know that whole bell bottom fad that started around 1994? Yea, that was me. I started it. I was the first one at my middle school. I broke out my dad's old navy uniforms and wore the pants to school. The jeans in the picture were my Dad's many years ago. I wore flannels, tye-dyes, head bands, round sunglasses, converse, Beatles shirts.. pretty much any cliche hippy garb and I had it on. I would draw flowers, happy faces, hearts and peace signs on all my notebooks. I seriously tried to come up with ways to bring world peace. I used to lie awake at night and imagine how much happier I would be if I had been born into the hippy era.

I've got nothing but love and respect for the people who actually were hippies (and still are), but man, am I glad I grew out of that.

Love & Hate

5 things I hate about myself:
1. My eyesight. This includes my astigmatism, which is the reason I'm not supposed to get Lasik.
2. My inherited soft teeth. My smile may look pretty but I have more cavities than a cave.
3. My metabolism. It's a bitch.
4. My lack of motivation to actually DO anything I want to do. I would love to redecorate my home, to learn to paint, to get better at photography, to save up and go on an extravagant vacation...
5. My lack of motivation to stay in touch with people. I'm really bad about keeping up with my friends. I will never email my friends first, or call them first. Half the time I don't call people back. I hate to lose friends, but I also hate talking on the phone.

5 things I like about myself:
1. My hair, which now that I've figured out I don't have to blowdry, really makes me feel like I have something.
2. My eyes. I'm blessed with my mom's awesome brown eyes.
3. My luck. I know I seem to be down a lot on here, but actually I'm pretty lucky in life. I may be poor, but I survive and things often seem to work out for me (somehow).
4. My skin. So far, (I'm 25 years old) I have never had an acne problem. And I rarely ever wash my face at night. It could be attributed to the fact that I've rarely ever worn face makeup (other than eye stuff). Either way, I feel lucky in that sense.
5. My ability to pick out good friends. You know who you are.

What about ya'll?
