Just Checking..

Do I have a sign on my forehead that says "Please talk to me, I LOVE creepy strangers!"?

Photobucket

I didn't think so.

Every time I go to lunch by myself, I break out whatever Patricia Cornwell book I am in the middle of, and I get some serious reading done while waiting for my food (and also while I'm eating, which is difficult, yes, but worth it). I love this. I don't like to be interrupted while I'm reading. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this dislike.

So why is it that 1/2 the time I'm sitting at lunch, reading, minding my own business, I am interrupted by some creepy MAN asking me a bunch of questions?

HELLO! CAN'T YOU SEE I'M TRYING TO READ HERE? That's why there's a book in front of me, and my eyes are directed to it.

No, I'm not lonely and wishing I had a man to talk to and to comfort me. No, I don't want to rub your feet and carry your baby. Yes, I work in town. Yes, I get a one hour lunch break just like everyone else. Why do you care?

Now I know what you're thinking, readers. 'Maybe they're just trying to be friendly'. Whatever! If they were just trying to be friendly, why is it always men? Women are friendly too. But women don't interrupt me while I'm reading so they can ask me stupid questions like, "Whatcha readin? 'She any good? 'She got a lot a books?".

Hrmf.

Stupid Red Hair.

Aww, you should be flattered! I'm sure it's annoying, yes, but at the same time it means you're desirable, right? And that's a good thing, right?

To be young and beautiful - what a burden!
Before you know it, you will be driving a minivan with ASU magnets on it and getting ignored.

Put on your headphones and don't make eye contact. If they still try to talk, act like it's a lot of trouble when you go to turn off your ipod and look annoyed that they interrupted you. You're too nice to do that though....
